Curriculum
- Designed for absolute beginners. A four week series covering core techniques for men and women. You will learn sample dance patterns, exercises, practice games, and be exposed to traditional and new Tango music. All designed to prepare you for going out on an evening of social Tango dancing. We will take a monthly "field trip" to a local Tango dance event where you can dance with me and your classmates.
- Week 1-4 is Beginner Level I: Salida Simple, Salida Variations, Ochos Adelante, Cadencia. No Class on July 16th.
- For those who want more, we continue Week 5-8 in August with Beginner Level II: Ochos Atras, Caminadas, Crossed System Salida Variations and Paradas.
- The Textbook and DVD for the class is available for online purchase, or in person when you start the class. All essential material is there for review.
Cost
- $35 per month per person , Couples $60/month. Discount to $20/month for high school/college/graduate students/enlisted military.
Do I need a partner?
- Due to recent man shortage, ladies will have to convince a man to sign up with them; he doesn't have to be your "partner", and we rotate partners in class.
Shoes:
- All you need is a shoe that is comfortable and leather-soled. Rubber soles don't work well because you can't pivot on them, and your shoes will stick to the ground. Ladies...keep the heel low at the beginning, and wear shoes with a back on them; no mules or slip-on shoes, please.
Clothes
- It simply does not make any sense at all to come to a tango class in clothing that restricts your movement whatsoever, no matter how very stylish it happens to be. Not that you'll be doing acrobatics or anything...it's just that you want your legs to be able to move freely! And avoid clothing or jewelry that has lots of dangly things on it that can get caught on someone else's sleeve or clothing!
Do you have to change partners in class?
- No. But if you change partners you will: (1) learn faster (2) be ready if a friend asks one of you to dance (3) have fewer arguments in class!
Late arrivals may be asked to arrange a make-up session before coming to the next class. Let us know if you might be missing a class.
